A Simple Conversation

I listened to some Turkish language audio files before my trip to help my ear get accustomed to the sound of Turkish. It is, after all, quite different from the French and Spanish I studied in high school.

Here is a simple conversation I was able to have with a market vendor in Korkuteli.

Meg: Merhaba (Hello)

Seller: Merhaba. Nasilsiniz? (Hello. How are you?)

M: Ben iyim, teṣekler. Nasiliniz? (I'm good, thanks. How are you?)

S: Iyi. (Good)

M: (pointing to 3 varieties of figs) Farklı? (Figs?)

S: Evet. (he said something else which I took to mean 'would you like a taste?') (Yes)

M: Evet. (Yes.)

Seller hands me a fig that I split with Alethya.

M: Nefis! Biraz, lutfen. (Delicious! I'll take some, please.)

Haydi Gidelim! (Let's Go!)

Sync or Swim

The bouyant Mediterranean Sea is the setting for some water entertainment by a hardy group of tour members. Renee, Gwen, Steve, Amy, Linda, and I quickly got adjusted to the cool water temp. The cool April air inhibited most of the tour group from joining us.

Someone had the great idea to put on a show for the rest of the folks still on the boat.

This short (1:11) video proudly displays our impromptu synchronized swimming. Fun! (Source video courtesy Steve and Linda Malone.)
